Be patient with me...
If you've tried to get the sound files from my blog in the last couple days you might get a message like this. I'm not sure why they don't work all the sudden but I will re-up them soon. This week I'll be pretty busy practicing with my new band every night so you might not see much for new posts for a few days. But sit tight, OK?But yeah, anyways I have been making music on my own for a while under the name "The Something Special" in hopes that someday it would be a band. Well a friend asked me to play at a concert he and some singers are hosting in their loft, so I decided to put a group together. It's our first show and we need lots of practice, especially since two people in the band have never played music before. So wish us luck! Maybe I'll have some photos later.....

FOUND: Lists
One thing I probably find the most of are lists. They give you a strange little glimpse into the life of a complete stranger. Sometimes you can find a lot of info about a person from their list. "Vodka - cheapest big bottle" says a lot to me.

Raise Your Mug!
I drew this in 1997 when I was in high school. Actually I just happened to be in a Saturday detention when I drew it. All of the teachers would give us assignments to work on for the five or six hours we had to be there. My art teacher gave me a stupid picture from a magazine of a woman's dainty hand holding a champagne glass, with the instruction of copying the picture. This was my little way of rebellion I guess.

"Superstar Recording" Tape
"Superstar Recording Studios" are these booths at amusement parks like Six Flags and Cedar Point where you can sing along to your favorite songs karaoke style and get a souvenir cassette to take home. I don't know If they still have these or not.
Andy found this tape at a thrift store for me. Recorded at Cedar Point in Sanduky Ohio, this is Michele and Tina's version of the Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right", dating this to probably mid to late 80's. A really great and funny find! I love the banter going on at the end of the song.

FOUND: Computer Fun!
For a couple years now, I've been collecting what are called "found" items. Things like photos, notes, grocery lists etc. that are found on the street, at thrift stores, in the trash and other places normal people avoid. I'm gonna start sharing these beauties here for you all to enjoy!
Here's my most recent find, a photo I call "Computer Fun". Judging by the boxiness of the computer, the floppy disks on the desk and the clothes on these kids this is most likely late 80's to early 90's. I wonder what they're playing? Mom wonders too. "My turn! My turn!"

The Awful World of Glamour Portraits
Yes for a small fee of only $19.95 you too can have your own deluxe 8x10 glamor portrait! Of course the entire package of various 8x10's, 5x7's and wallet sizes will cost you a couple hundred bucks. But it's worth it! Just look how glamorous you too can look! My mom actually did one of these one time with a friend of hers. It was a special promo they'd seen on a flyer. The fly-by-night portrait studio just so happened to be in a motel room. The make-up artist was a chain smoking rough edged lady who claimed to be a make up artist for Las Vegas show girls. They teased my moms hair up into this foot tall frizz bomb, caked on the make up, and covered her in a lovely garland of brightly colored feathers. They did the same to my mom's friend who, when she went home was applauded by her husband as looking "more beautiful than ever" and they went straight out for dinner. They also bought the entire photo package. I wish I had my mom's photo to share, but I don't think she'd like that.

Oh yes, don't forget about the strange world of dog glamor photography......

"Chunk of Funk" Cassette
From my pile of Salvation Army dumb tape finds the other day. This is a self produced cassette of a group called Chunk of Funk. The insert was printed on a computer and the label on the tape is a sticker. The music is pretty dumb, but be careful - frequent listens might change your mind. Once you get into the groove there's no turning back! These guys are actually good musicians, I wouldn't really call it funk though, more like a cross between smooth jazz, muzak, and soul I guess. The photo is kinda weird for a cover though, whats that weird candelabra behind them? Are they in a dungeon of Funk? See the tape label for song titles. Download two songs below!
